Still cold, gray and windy this morning.
Some colleagues of Jens INPRES want to organise
an asado (barbecue) today in the hotel garden. But Jens phones me late morning,
one of those colleagues is sick and it is canceled.
I go to Libertad, the large shopping center
quite near by. I say and repeat (see blog Las Americas and Las Americas 2 ) I do not like this
name for a mall, it's a beautiful name too charged of greatness to be applied
to a mall. I buy first, in a sewing shop in the mall, a very strong black
thread, a needle and a thimble. Then I go to the supermarket. I flip through
books. It's interesting to note that there is a good range of books about
actual subjects and politics. A book written by an opposition journalist
laments the end of politics in Argentina. According to him, it's money and
profit leading everything. According to him all politicians, trade unionists,
the majority of the press, etc. are corrupt.
The weather improves in the afternoon.
Rest of the day not much more active than
yesterday, a quick dip in the pool and dinner (home made) in the garden, not as
late as yesterday. Jens sews his sandals with black thread.
I'll tell you now the story of the helicopter crash
where José Luis Gioja, gobernador of San Juan, was severely injured. The
helicopter in which he was travelling crashed to the ground in October 2013, in
a place called Valle Fertil. An MP was killed and he, the governor was very
seriously injured. He recovered well and had started to be active again. He was
very popular before his accident and even more now.
The helicopter crash in October and heavy rains
in February are the two biggest and recent events in San Juan.
