Jens
A
A long
terme, ce n’est pas une solution. Un bonhomme vient quelques heures par
semaine, juste pour tondre la pelouse. Dommage.
Jens leaves
to go to work at the INPRES ( Instituto de Prevención de Riesgos Sísmicos.
Institute of Seismic Hazard Prevention ) a little after 8 am. He walks and it
takes him 20-25 minutes.
The INPRES
is the national center for seismic investigations in Argentina.
I remain a
bit at the hotel, then ride to the bike shop near by to buy a lock. I described
at length this shop in the previous blog, Las Américas 2. This is an old shop
that sells bicycles, furniture and appliances. Shelves of several meters are
full of bicycle parts. I'm sure we could build a new bike with these parts. The
lady shows me two burglar models, one with a combination and the other with a key.
Another client advises me to take the one with the key. He pointed out to me that at night
is not easy to see the numbers of the combination. I take the one with the key.
Here, as in the bookstore or at the grocery store, the amount payable is
recorded by the cash register. But the cashiers still write the amount in large notebooks.
At the
bookstore, Saturday, we bought a map of San Juan (we had already one but we forgot
it ). A salesperson finds it, an employee type the amount on a cash register and gives us the receipt. With this receipt,
we go to the cashier and pay. The receipt is then stamped by the cashier as
paid. Then, having received the stamped receipt, we go to another person who
gives us the plan. Four people involved in the sale of this plan ... Why make
it simple when it can be complicated, as the Shadocks always said.
I return to
the hotel and ride back to Libertad, the large shopping center. I want to go get
money. The queue is long and, anyway, stupid as I am, I forgot my card. I have
150 pesos (120 kr or 15 euros approximately). I go into the supermarket. It is
very big, 27 checkouts. I buy bread, a sponge to wash dishes and a chocolate bar.
I also look at the books. I flips through a book on Cristina Kirchner,
President of Argentina. She is described as very bling bling, jewelery ,
fashion, relations in high society, rich ... That seems pretty far from the
Argentine people. But she is quite popular.
Then I go
to the checkout in the priority queue, pregnant women, people with young
children and retirees. The rapid checkout are not rapid and the others even less.
People are used to queue. The cashier records the barcode and put the product
in plastic bags. The customer in front of me buys a few things. He pays by
card, but I do not know why, the cashier takes the invoice and the credit card
and goes away to a phone in the mall. This lasts and lasts and then she comes
back, everything is arranged. For my three small things, I queue twenty
minutes.
Back to the
hotel. I speak a little with Andrea, the young woman at the reception, who had
a dog with her. She is now the mother of a beautiful little boy, one year old.
She tells me that the gardener was fired to save money. Stupid. The garden and the
pool are less well maintained, small technical problems are not fixed (leaks, light bulbs ... ). In the long term, this is not a solution. A guy comes
just a few hours a week to mow the lawn. Too bad.
I eat lunch,
read the newspaper and put me to the blog. So far, I confess that I have not
found my enthusiasm to blog. The blog is quite boring, I must say. I 'll make
an effort and try to find more interesting things to talk about. But this is
our fourth stay in San Juan and it is more difficult to discover new and
interesting subjects .
I get out
to 4 pm, on bike, it is hot and there is nobody in the streets. I'll take money
out at Libertad. The first distributor will not accept my Norwegian card but
there is no problem with the second one.
Jens comes
home and we swim.
Dinner in
the garden and a small glass after it: San Juan brandy for Jens and green,
green mint liqueur for me.
He does not want people driving on his corner
Une corbeille en bois
A wooden basket
