The weather is beautiful, sunny and warm, 27-28
degrees.
I stay at the hotel until 11 am then I'll bike
to the neighborhood streets to find my beautiful
" basurero " (a garbage basket). I turn around, try many
streets in the neighborhood but in vain. I remember that it was near the hotel.
But where ?
Then I go to the center. In front of the Civic Centre, people are
protesting, red flags floating in the wind. There are the communist party, a
party of the new left and the unions. Speakers make speeches. They accuse the
government to accentuate the difference between rich and poor. A retiree
complains of the smallness of pensions. The police is present but does not
intervene.
I buy the newspaper on the way back at
"my" newsagent. He often lacks change and either I owe him a peso or
he owes me one. The local newspaper, El Diario de Cuyo is pro government. For
example, his way of presenting the takeover of Michelle Bachelet, Chile's new
president, is to show and comment what Cristina Krischner worn as clothing or
what she said. Michelle Bachelet is somewhere in the background.
I go swimming and do my 36 lengths (432 m),
then lunch and newspaper. Jens phones me: he invited Rodolfo and Olga tonight.
We talked about it before.
I'm going again to Libertad to buy cured ham.
We have the same menu today also. It's good and easy to prepare.
Jens comes home, we swim and I do 24 lengths,
720 m today. Jens swim 30 lengths (360 m)
We prepare everything, set the table outside
and darkness increases, no light in the garden. Jens asks the reception, but the
girl is new and does not know how to do it. Rodolfo and Olga arrive, we are
still in the dark. Finally, a client finds the contact hidden under the ivy on
the garden wall.
We sit down to eat. Good dinner, good
conversation, we learn to know better Argentina. People are very wary of banks
and government. In 2001, those who had savings have lost almost everything
overnight. For example, when it comes to retirement, people say that their
retirement would be sufficient for now, but think it will not be enough in a
few years. Once they have a bit of money, people buy land or apartment.
A good and enjoyable evening again.
