We leave the hotel at 8:30 am, said goodbye to
Andrea , Vanesa and Delia, the nice ladies at the hotel. The taxi driver is a
woman, which is rare in San Juan . She drives carefully and it suits us well.
The bus, full, leaves right on time. Heading south, I have the sun right on my
window and I have to pull the curtain. We do not have the seats at the front, I
do not know why. As I can not look at the scenery, which is not very varied
anyway, desert and desert, I watch the movie on the bus. I think it's called
The Family, the story of a family of mafiosos (father, mother and two
teenagers, all gangster) who must settle in a small town in Normandy in France.
It is quite entertaining and time passes quickly. The bus left us at the
entrance of Mendoza airport. Fast and beautiful flight over the Andes and we arrive
in Santiago early in the afternoon. It is sunny and 30 º, a beautiful fall day
here. We return to the same hotel, the Conde Ansurez, near the metro station
República. Jens phone to our friend Carlos. He and Silvia come and pick us up
and we have lunch at their home. They live on the fourteenth floor of a
building with a beautiful view over a large park and back the Andes.
We eat very well, too well: empanadas and
pastel de choclo (corn cake), which is a full meal in itself, corn, chicken,
egg and olives. This is very good but very nutritious. We delay the dessert and
go for a walk in the park. The trees have beautiful fall colors.
We meet these good friends with pleasure.
Carlos has had health problems but is better now. His children and
grandchildren are in Norway, his daughter lives on Askøy, our island. The park
is large and lively, a Sunday afternoon. We return to eat dessert, “leche asada”,
which is like our “œufs au lait” (caramel pudding, I suppose). By late evening,
we walk back to the hotel a, 25 minutes walk, in the still warm evening. Thank
you, Carlos and Silvia. Maybe next time we meet it will be in Norway.
